Samsung Galaxy S20 VS LG Velvet

Which Phone Is Better Between Samsung Galaxy S20 And LG Velvet?

The LG Velvet was one of the most talked-about phones when it got released in 2020, but it is now a victim of LG’s decision to abandon the smartphone market. That’s a pity because this phone has the specs to compete with some of the top Android phones, like the Samsung Galaxy S20.

Samsung’s Galaxy S series reigns supreme in the Android market as the go-to phone for those seeking premium features.

In this article, we do a comparison review of the two phones to help you make the ultimate decision between Samsung and LG.

Samsung Galaxy S20 VS. LG Velvet Features

Samsung Galaxy S20 VS LG Velvet Features

Samsung’s Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition) and LG’s Velvet are high-end smartphones: The smartphones have similar characteristics, such as a triple camera and a screen with Full HD+ resolution, but technical specs on aspects such as battery and CPU differ.

1. The Screen And Design

With a 6.5-inch screen and Full HD+ resolution (2400 x 1080 pixels) compared to LG’s 6.8 inches (2460 x 1080 pixels), the Galaxy S20 FE is smaller. Both smartphones should produce clear visuals in terms of user experience since their pixel density per inch (PPI) is similar: the S20 FE has 407 PPI while the Velvet has 395 PPI.

The Samsung 20 FE has a 120Hz refresh rate, which means the display will have more fluid transitions and effects. The Velvet has a 60Hz panel. Both, however, have OLED technology. The LG model boasts P-OLED, whereas the Galaxy S20 FE has Super AMOLED.

The buyer is greeted by a big screen that takes up a significant front panel section in both situations. On the other hand, the LG Velvet has a drop-shaped notch, while the Galaxy S20 FE has a centered hole for the front camera.

Both are IP68 certified, which means they can survive 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes. Still, the LG continues with military certification to the MIL-STD-810G standard, which guarantees even greater resilience.

LG Velvet comes in three light-sensitive colors: dark gray, white, and “Illusion Sunset,” which is a mix of yellow and pink. Red, lavender, orange, mint, navy, and white are the six color possibilities for the S20 FE.

2. The Cameras

Both phones sport a three-camera system. A 12 MP primary sensor (f/1.8 aperture), an 8 MP sensor with a telephoto lens (f/2.4) enabling 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera (f/2.2) are all included in the Galaxy S20 FE.

The primary camera in Velvet has a higher resolution, with 48 MP (f/1.8). There’s also an ultra-wide 8 MP (f/2.2) sensor and a 5 MP depth sensor (f/2.4), responsible for measuring the depth of field used in portrait mode, a popular feature that blurs the image’s backdrop.

The phone uses artificial intelligence processing to improve the images in both scenarios. The Galaxy S20 FE boasts a higher quality sensor for selfies: 32 MP against 16 MP on the Velvet front camera.

The telephoto lens on the Galaxy S20 strikes the most since it offers a 3x lossless zoom that can bring out clarity in anything you’re shooting. You can also digitally zoom in 30 times, though it is not recommended unless you have a tripod on hand to avoid shaky images.

The LG Velvet lacks a telephoto lens. Instead, it has a 5MP depth sensor in the triple rear camera array for better portrait pictures. That is in addition to a 48MP wide lens and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. Pixel binning is used in the primary lens to combine four pixels for enhanced low-light performance.

LG touted Velvet’s video capabilities when it released it in Korea, citing features like picture stabilization, ASMR recording, and a bokeh voice function that isolates whoever is speaking when there is background noise. The Galaxy S20, which can shoot 8K video at 24 frames per second, gives the LG Velvet a run for its money.

3. Performance And Storage

Velvet is a fairly new phone, released in September 2020, yet it relies on a three-year-old processor: the Snapdragon 845. Qualcomm’s octa-core CPU has a clock speed of up to 2.8 GHz and uses a 10 nm manufacturing process. While it has enough performance to serve customers in their day-to-day duties, it may disappoint those who are more demanding and desire a more current chip.

The CPU in Samsung’s smartphone is the latest model. The Exynos 990 (octa-core up to 2.73 GHz) is the same processor used in the Galaxy Note 20 range but with a 7 nm design that should be more energy efficient.

The Galaxy S20 FE is available with 6 or 8 GB of RAM, with Velvet having a special 6 GB model. RAM is the component that allows the system to maintain open files and programs. In other words, the more RAM a system has, the more fluid its performance is while switching between apps.

The Galaxy S20 FE has storage options of 128 or 256 GB, whereas the LG variant is limited to 128 GB. You may use MicroSD cards to enhance the storage space in both scenarios.

4. The Battery

LG’s newest phone has a longer battery life than its predecessors. The LG Velvet’s 4,300 mAh battery is somewhat larger than the Samsung Galaxy S20’s 4,000 mAh battery.

Both phones have fast charging capabilities; however, the Samsung phone may charge quicker since it permits 25 W chargers, which is the case with the Samsung smartphone model. You can only use components with a maximum power of 15 W to recharge the LG, and you should do it gently.

5. The Android Version

The two phones come pre-installed with Android 10, Google’s most recent operating system. In the case of Samsung, the phone runs the One UI 2.5 interface, while the LG comes with the company’s UX9. The Galaxy S20 FE will receive up to three years of support and system upgrades from Samsung, but Velvet has no plans to upgrade to new Android versions provided by the company.

6. The Extras

When it comes to audio, LG and Samsung differ. The Galaxy S20 FE does not have a P2 (3.5 mm) headphone jack; however, it does come with AKG’s USB-C headphones. The 3.5 mm output is still in Velvet; however, the headphones are not in the packaging.

Both devices include fingerprint sensors built into the screen in terms of biometrics.

Extra features are also available on both devices. Samsung supports DeX, allowing you to use the Galaxy as a PC with a monitor and keyboard. LG has a Dual Screen Cover function, which adds a second screen to the phone.

Regarding connectivity, Samsung’s device already has Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) built-in, whereas Velvet has Wi-Fi 5. (802.11ac). The phones also have Bluetooth 5.0, 4G network compatibility, GPS, and NFC for contactless payments.

7. Outlook

In some ways, the LG Velvet vs. Samsung Galaxy S20 battle is a moot topic, with LG discontinuing phones and Samsung launching fresh versions, both for flagships and mid-range devices. If you must select between the two phones, the LG Velvet is an attractive option because of its beautiful design and longer battery life.

The S20 edges out the LG Velvet in terms of performance and mobile photography, which are two important elements to consider when deciding which phone to buy. On the other hand, the LG Velvet displayed LG’s daring side, which we’ll miss now that the company has moved on.

When Did LG Officially Stop Manufacturing Smartphones

When Did LG Officially Stop Manufacturing Smartphones

LG stated in April 2021 that it would be closing its smartphone division. According to reports, the company shut down the mobile division fully. LG was unable to immediately halt production due to contractual obligations at the period of the original announcement.

By the end of 2021, the last of LG’s phones had officially gone off the assembly line, and the business ceased to produce devices. LG plans to turn a factory in Vietnam that produced many of its smartphones into a home appliance manufacturing facility.

LG’s smartphone segment was a financial drain to the company for many years. The business shut down its unsuccessful division in July 2021, albeit some smartphone gadgets may still be on the market.

LG will provide up to three years of Android operating system upgrades to anyone who purchases their phone. The Company also pledges to give up to four years of after-sales support from the product’s release date.
