Before becoming a CEO in August 2011, Cook was Apple’s Chief Operating Officer overseeing all of the Company’s global sales. His role included end-to-end management of Apple’s supply chain, sales activities, and service and support in all markets.

He also headed up Apple’s Macintosh division. He played a vital role in the continued development of strategic reseller and supplier relationships, ensuring flexibility in response to an increasingly competitive marketplace. Cook joined Apple in March 1998 as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations and took the Vice Presidency of Worldwide Sales and Operations role from September 1999 until July 2004, when he was named chief operating officer.

Before joining Apple, Cook spent 13 years at IBM, where he held various positions in manufacturing and development. His last position at IBM was vice president of corporate materials before joining Compaq in 1997 as executive vice president of its Personal Systems Group, overseeing the group’s manufacturing, engineering, and product design functions.

Cook holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Auburn University and master’s degrees from Louisiana State University (MBA) and Duke University (MBA).

Andrea Jung
